California Artists Open Studio Events - Sonoma Mendocino Coast

Enjoy Studio Discovery Tour 2005 along the romantic Sonoma Mendocino Coast

September 3rd & 4th (Labor Day Weekend), September 10th & 11th
Artists studios open from 10-5 each day

Gualala, California
. . . . . . . . . . . . Imagine combining the glorious drive along the Sonoma/Mendocino coastline with the excitement of visiting the individual studios of the artists who live and work there!

The North Coast Artists' Guild presents two weekends of this winning combination with the 13th annual Studio Discovery Tour, September 3rd & 4th and September 10th and 11th . Absolutely FREE, this is a self-guided tour along the beautiful Highway 1, to be enjoyed at your own leisurely pace. Studios will be open from 10-5 each day.

You can expect to meet artists, see professional, original artwork, to enjoy sensational scenery and to be served some light refreshments. Every studio is different, each stop unique. The 49 participating artists offer the interesting opportunity to meet them in person, see demonstrations and to view a wide array of original paintings, ceramics, sculptures, fountains, metal works, glass art, textiles, photography, jewelry and paper works.

Studios will be open along Hwy 1 from Annapolis, through Sea Ranch, Gualala, Anchor Bay, Manchester, Point Arena, and Little River (just south of Mendocino). Signs will help along the way and the brochure with a description of each artist and a detailed map make it a cinch to find the studios you will most want to see.

A wonderful day or two awaits you! A free map inside a 44-page, full-color brochure describing each artist is available by calling Claire McCarthy at 707-884-3444, or emailing your request to claire@northcst.com, or by visiting The Gualala Arts Center, Point Arena CityArt, or other businesses along the route.

The North Coast Artists' Guild

was formed in 1997 as an affiliate of Gualala Arts to better serve working artists in the Mendocino and Sonoma coastal communities, from as far south as the Russian River to as far north as Little River. There are currently more than 82 members.

Guild activities include:
  • The annual Studio Discovery Tour.
  • Exhibits in local venues.
  • The Guild sponsors a double booth at the annual Art in the Redwoods Festival in Gualala.
  • The Guild presents several gallery and foyer shows each year at the Gualala Arts Center.
  • Membership meetings.
  • An Internet list serve and web site.
  • Scholarship funding.

The Studio Discovery Tour is our largest event. It is managed by the Guild and is held on two weekends beginning on Labor Day. Over 15,000 color brochures are printed and distributed in July and August to promote this event. You can download a free copy of the brochure from the Guild's studio-tours.com website. You can request a paper copy via an eMail request to: wildiris@mcn.org or mail your request to
     The North Coast Artists' Guild
     P.O. Box 1658
     Gualala, CA 95445-1658.

The Guild's central objective is to assist local artists in improving their incomes and reputations. We are working to make our art community and art buying destination like the towns of Mendocino and Carmel.

For more information click on The North Coast Artists' Guild to learn more about the Guild, its                 member artists, and events.

    Our priorities for 2003:

    1. Developing more opportunities to sell art here: venues, shows, Studio Tour.
    2. Producing more out-of-area publicity to bring potential art-buying tourists here.
    3. More emphasis on art education: classes, demonstrations, forums.
    4. Developing a community of artists: more get-togethers, emphasis on interaction with other artists.
    5. Developing a creative environment for the arts, a more creativity-friendly community.
    6. Making our local area a more beautiful, artistic place; art everywhere.
    7. Develop favorable group purchase deals for art supplies.
